At an early age, my Mom instilled in me the joy of loving and serving God and others above yourself. No matter where my life has taken me, I have always found a grounding comfort in that joy. Serving vulnerable children has been a passionate focus of mine for some time, and I feel it is even more important in our world today where children are caught in circumstances beyond their control.
Rather than being cherished and invested in as our future, children oftentimes become a consequence of pride, greed, anger, and hatred. The most vulnerable are forced to live a life of hurt, consumed by fear and loneliness - left feeling unworthy, unloved, and hopeless. Love brings hope, healing, and the promise of a secure future.
SHINE for Your Future’s mission is to show love to vulnerable children in foster and orphan care, and to provide access to opportunities that bring hope for a future.

By day, I am a technologist and data manager who can often be found on a tractor on our farm or with a fishing pole in my hand!

We moved to this area in 2019 from Ohio. I had been purposely giving back as I have been so blessed. Between church and other organizations I enjoyed helping others. Soon after arriving here, Covid hit and I had two new hips installed and life went along. I realized I felt something was missing and that was giving back. SHINE is an organization I discovered and its cause was new to me and one that tugged at my heart. I want to make a difference in the life of these young adults who need help in getting a good start on life. SHINE will allow me to help many of these people that are out of the foster care system without much hope of succeeding.

Family. I am blessed with a beautiful, loving family that consists of my wife Rhonda, two daughters, two stepsons, their husbands/wives and six precious grandchildren. I was also blessed with two parents that loved and cared about me. During my 40+ year career I have volunteered in the usual organizations, Red Cross, United Way, YMCA, etc., thus feeling like I was doing something to help. However, these organizations were large, and I never really felt connected with their purpose. They all felt like a corporate entity even though their intentions were good. Family. When introduced to Shine I felt Family. Family among the leadership and more important, their desire to create a family for people who have not been as blessed as I have been. Not a traditional family, but the feeling of family. People aging out of foster care have had a sense of aloneness and self-responsibility. At best they have just been a paycheck for a foster family and at worst they have been abused. Trust is a concept they do not understand. Thus Shine. They strive to create an environment of true concern and caring….Family. Thus, here I am a part of a new Family with a purpose that moves and inspires me.
I have been a CPA for over 40 years and have been a partner in a CPA firm and a corporate CFO. These skills will help me play a small role in the betterment of our community and do a small part in helping our little Family do great things.

My life motto has and always will be “things happen for a reason”, hence, SHINE. After meeting Kelly, our Founder, and learning the purpose of SHINE, I very much knew I wanted to be a part. I was very familiar with fostering and/or children homes but never understood what happened when my friend/acquaintance aged out. Realizing the huge need for support, particularly right here in our county, I want to help and make a difference ANYWAY that I can in supporting these young adults, hence SHINE. Then....perhaps my life motto will be confirmed!
